SAP IMG Project

October 31st, 2010 No comments

If you control your transports in projects you can plan your development work and Customizing activities in structured projects. You can structure changes independently of each other in different projects, and then import them independently into target systems. I recommend that you do this if, for example, you want to go live with different projects at different times, or if you want to link development work in a single area.

Procedure

1. Define an IMG project

Go to transaction SPRO_ADMIN and click ‘Create Project’ button to create a new IMG project.

Overview

SAP roadmap provides the methodology for implementing SAP projects. Solution manager delivers a list of standard SAP defined roadmaps. If you need to connect the standard roadmap with your own implementing methodology, you need to create a new roadmap in solution manager. The new roadmap can be used in the project further.

Detail Steps

1. Go to Transaction RMDEF – Roadmap Lookup table maintenance

Choose create button and enter the roadmap name. If you want to use this roadmap in the project, choose checkbox ‘Available for usage in projects’.

SAP Solution Manager – Template

Application Area – Solution Manager

Overview

What is template in solution manager? Template defines the structure of the project as well as some preconfiguration to these stucture elements. Template is very important in the global rollout project. In the head quarter, you define one or more templates containing scenarios, blueprint documents and configuration and several implemtation projects will be created based on these templates for subsidiaries.

SAP stuctures the template with elements: orgnizational units, master data, business scenarios, business processes and process steps. The strcture likes below:

You can define the the template from the beginning or you can select predefined business scenarios, business processes, process steps, master data and orgnizational units which are delivered by SAP with business process repository. The online BPR can be visited by https://implementationcontent.sap.com/bpr. For how to use the predefined templates, please follow my another post: http://www.sapgeek.net/2009/12/note-883775.

Application Area – Solution Manager

Overview

The enterprise-wide system landscape can be managed in solution manager centrally. The system landscape then can be used in your implementation and template projects, to monitor change requests (Change Management), in the Customizing Synchronization (Customizing Scout, Customizing Distribution) and in operational processing (Solution Monitoring, Services, Support Desk).

The SAP Solution Manager is based on the system landscape. A correctly maintained system landscape is a prerequisite for the Solution Manager functions.

The system landscape data can be captured automatically from SLD or be maintained manually. There are several system landscape components which includes servers, databases, systems, systems components.

Web applications for Solution Manager

December 23rd, 2009 No comments

There are many web applications delivered by SAP for solution manager. These applications can be easily integrated into the Enterprise portal and provide web base access for all the business users. I summaries these applications into below three categories according the technologies it uses.

ITS based web applications

The ITS (Internet Transaction Server) is the essential link between SAP systems and the Internet. It is the first generation web technology of SAP.ITS translates the dialog protocol of SAPGUI into the internet protocol like HTTP.

You can access the default SAP WebGUI use below URL pattern: http://solutionmanagerhost /sap/bc/gui/sap/its/webgui?sap-client=XXX.All the transactions can that marks SAPGUI for HTML can be viewed in the browser.

SAP Solution Manager – Project

October 10th, 2009 No comments

The SAP Solution Manager supports you throughout the entire life-cycle of your solutions, from the Business Blueprint to the configuration to production processing. Project is used to control all the processes. SAP provide ASAP methodology to implement a SAP project. SAP solution manager use project to support all the steps of the ASAP methodology, from project preparation, business blueprint to implementation.

Project Introduction

There are two types of projects: implementation project and template. Implementation project reuses SAP standard provided scenarios and processes, while template is customer defined scenarios and processes. Template can be used as an start point of SAP global rollout.

Below diagram is my own understanding of SAP solution manager project.

Project Document Management

The most important material in the project is document. Each Solution Manager system has an internal SAP Knowledge Warehouse for storing documents created in a project, solution or roadmap. The system puts the documents in the context in the Knowledge Warehouse, which you specified when you created the project, solution or roadmap. When you create a project or solution, the system automatically creates a folder for it in the Knowledge Warehouse for its documents. It also creates a folder group with the same name. You can control the authorization for documents in projects, solutions and roadmaps, in folder groups.

The Solution Manager system has its own Knowledge Warehouse to store documents, but you can also connect an external SAP Knowledge Warehouse.
