SAP Solution Manager – Template
Application Area – Solution Manager
Overview
What is template in solution manager? Template defines the structure of the project as well as some preconfiguration to these stucture elements. Template is very important in the global rollout project. In the head quarter, you define one or more templates containing scenarios, blueprint documents and configuration and several implemtation projects will be created based on these templates for subsidiaries.
SAP stuctures the template with elements: orgnizational units, master data, business scenarios, business processes and process steps. The strcture likes below:

You can define the the template from the beginning or you can select predefined business scenarios, business processes, process steps, master data and orgnizational units which are delivered by SAP with business process repository. The online BPR can be visited by https://implementationcontent.sap.com/bpr. For how to use the predefined templates, please follow my another post: http://www.sapgeek.net/2009/12/note-883775.
Process Flow
This process flow provides instructions on defining, reusing and transporting templates.
1. Create a project of type template project. Go to transaction SOLAR_PROJECT_ADMIN and click create button. You can base your new template on an existing template in the Scope tab in the Project Administration.

2. Create project structure in business blueprint transaction – SOLAR01. Assign document in the Gen. Documentation tab. Assign BC Sets, IMG activities and test cases to the project structure elements in the Configuration transaction.

3. Assign templates to scenarios in the Structure tab in the Business Blueprint transaction, to copy the scenario structures into the template. You can assign several templates per scenario.

4. Set the visibility of the template in the Project Administration (SOLAR_PROJECT_ADMIN) to Public in the Templates tab, to make them visible system-wide. This means this template can be used in other project.

5. Transport a template into another system landscape. Release the transport with the template and send it into the target system. Click the CAR button marked in red in the above image, you can put the template into a transport.
