Field Selection Configuration for Material Master

Overview

In transaction MM03, we notice some fields like product hierarchy doesn’t appear in some material types and only be displayed in materials with type finished goods. This kind of behavior is archived by field selection.

In this section, you carry out the following activities:

- Define whether a field is hidden or displayed, or whether an entry is mandatory or optional in material master maintenance by assigning the field to a field selection group
- Create and maintain field references
- Define industry sectors and industry-sector-specific field selection
- Define plant-specific field selection and screen selection

Configuration Detail

1. Assign Fields to Field Selection Groups

In IMG path: SAP Customizing Implementation Guide -> Logistics – General -> Material Master -> Field Selection -> Assign Fields to Field Selection Groups. To define whether a field is hidden or displayed, or whether an entry is mandatory or optional in material master maintenance, you must assign the field to a field selection group. You may assign a field to one field selection group only.

The values of the field selection groups have been preassigned as follows:

- 001-110 Material master for industry
- 111-120 Reserved for customers (except where the values are already in use)
- 121-150 Material master for industry
- 151-210 Material master for retail
- 211-240 Reserved for customers

The product hierarchy (MARA-PRDHA) is assigned to selection group 98.

2. Maintain Field Selection for Field Selection Groups

In IMG path: SAP Customizing Implementation Guide -> Logistics – General -> Material Master -> Field Selection -> Maintain Field Selection for Data Screens. Enter Field selection group 98. This field selection group contains field product hierarchy (MARA-PRDHA).

For field reference ROH, the attribute is hide.

For field reference FERT, the attribute is opt.entry.

3. Assign the field reference to material type.

In IMG path: SAP Customizing Implementation Guide -> Logistics – General -> Material Master -> Basic Settings -> Material Types -> Define Attributes of Material Types. Assign field reference to material type.
